The federal government has announced that all federal educational institutions will now be open to private investors. This decision has been met with fierce backlash from various quarters, including prominent human rights activist, Mahdi Shehu.

Shehu, known for his outspoken stance on social justice issues, did not mince words in his condemnation of the policy. "This is pure wickedness and sadism," Shehu declared in a post made available on his verified X handle. He argued that the decision reflects a gross disregard for the educational rights of the nation’s youth.

Shehu’s critique extends beyond the policy itself, accusing its architects of profound moral failure. "Whoever is responsible for this senile decision will never end well," he stated emphatically. "Ignorance will run through his entire progeny up to the last generation."

Supporters of the policy argue that opening up educational institutions to private investment could bring much-needed funding and innovation.

They claim that this could potentially enhance the quality of education and expand access to resources. However, critics like Shehu fear that this move will lead to increased commercialization of education, exacerbating inequality and putting vulnerable students at a disadvantage.
