Former governor of Enugu state, Okwesilieze Nwodo while in an interview with Arise news correspondent claimed that Igbos are largely responsible for building Lagos.
According to him, people who argue with the statement that Igbos built Lagos are taking it out of context stating that what nobody can deny the fact that the Igbos have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos, Abuja, kano, port Harcourt and many other cities.
He claims that 7 out of 10 markets in Lagos where developed from swaps by igbos who he regarded as risk takers.
He said;
"I do not see any reason why people should argue with that statement of fact."
"In any city that the Igbos have contributed to in developing, they have come close second to the indigenous people and sometimes next to neck"
He further claimed that there is hardly any city in the southeast that people outside the southeast have contributed in developing.
