An Elder Statesman and Ijaw Leader, Pa Edwin Clark, alleged that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, sided with the former First Lady, Madam Patience Jonathan, during her disputes with the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Clark explained that this allegiance significantly influenced the dynamics within their political circle, solidifying Wike's position. He noted that former President Goodluck Jonathan also approached him, urging him to support Wike ahead of the Rivers governorship election. However, Clark firmly refused to become subservient to their demands. He insisted on maintaining his independence and advocating for an open competition among all the candidates.

In an interview with Punch, Clark described how Wike took sides with Madam Patience Jonathan during her conflicts with Amaechi, which earned Wike great respect from her. Goodluck Jonathan also joined in, asking Clark to support Wike. Clark refused, stating that he would not be turned into an errand boy and insisted on letting all candidates compete fairly. In his own words, he remarked, "When Madam Patience (Jonathan) had problems with Amaechi, Wike took sides with her. That was why the madam developed a great respect for him (Wike). The husband too joined and came to me that I should support. I said no. They can't turn me into an errand boy. Let them all compete together.''
