The Coalition of Rivers State Leaders of Thoughts (CORSLOT) has condemned the actions of the ousted Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amewhule, for his failure to mediate the escalating feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as reported by Leadership.

This criticism was articulated during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, led by the group's Convener, Chief Sunnie Chukumele.

CORSLOT expressed serious concern over the ongoing political instability in Rivers State, which they attributed to what they described as political vandalism and rascality.

The coalition accused local political leaders of abandoning reason, thereby exacerbating the crisis. “Of particular note is the activities of the Rt. Hon, Martins Amewhule-led House of Assembly who were recently pronounced as no longer legitimate by the court,” Chukumele said.

The group argued that the political turmoil could have been avoided if Amewhule had taken on the mediator role expected of him.

“It is our opinion that Rivers State definitely would not have been in its current political shape had Rt. Hon. Martin Amewhule played the sacred role posterity bestowed on him,” Chukumele stated.

He criticized Amewhule for allowing the Legislative arm to act against the Executive, thus failing to stabilize the political landscape.

CORSLOT also called on Minister Wike to reconsider his stance in the ongoing conflict, insisting that he holds the key to resolving the crisis.

Chief Chukumele also addressed other political actors in Rivers State, warning them to remember that power ultimately belongs to the people and God.

“Rivers people are taking note of the actions of these political actors. Rivers State is owned by Rivers people and not self-seeking politicians,” he asserted.

He urged Governor Fubara to appoint capable individuals to his cabinet to ensure effective governance.
