Rivers United Rejects $150,000 Offer from SuperSport United for Star Player
Rivers United of the Nigeria Premier Football League have reportedly rejected a lucrative offer to trade their key player, Andy Okpe, to SuperSport United, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Pretoria-based club offered the Nigerian attacker a fee of around $150,000, according to reports in the Nigerian media.
Nigerian journalist "Mike the Pundit" revealed that Rivers United turned down the agreement as they aim to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
Okpe, who netted seven goals in 33 domestic league games for Rivers United, has reportedly lodged a transfer request to leave the club.
Several clubs are interested in signing the Nigerian attacker, with offers around $100,000.
Soccernet.ng reached out to Rivers United's media officer, Charles Mayuku, for confirmation, but he did not return calls or SMS.
These reports remain speculative unless the club releases an official statement or the media officer provides additional information regarding the transfer agreement.
Rivers United had a subpar performance in the recently concluded 2023-24 season, during which Enugu Rangers were crowned champions.
With the 2024-25 NPFL season set to commence in August, the Rivers State team is considering a squad restructure to ensure a successful campaign.
