Actress Biola Bayo has found herself embroiled in a controversy after a guest on her podcast, "Talk to B", allegedly faked her own death following a disturbing episode where she shared intense personal challenges and issues with addiction, The Nation reported.
The guest, identified as Nike, initially revealed shocking details, including claims of engaging in unconventional activities, and subsequently announced her own suicide. Biola Bayo, in response, shared the news of Nike's death on social media, prompting widespread sympathy and condolences from followers.
However, suspicions arose within Biola's team regarding inconsistencies in Nike's story. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Nike was still alive, leading to a revelation that she had staged her death.
In an official statement addressing the incident, Biola Bayo clarified the mission of her podcast, "Talk to B", which aims to provide a platform for individuals to share their stories and receive support, including therapy and crowdfunding initiatives for those in need.
"Our podcast has served as a listening ear for many, offering therapy and assistance to numerous individuals facing challenges," Biola stated. She expressed deep emotional and mental distress upon learning of Nike's deceit, highlighting the impact of such fraudulent actions on both herself and her team.
Following the discovery of Nike's fabricated death, Biola's team took legal action by petitioning the Nigeria Police Force. Both Nike and her friend, who had initially announced Nike's death, were subsequently arrested and interrogated.
According to Biola, Nike confessed during police interrogation that she had falsely claimed her death due to the backlash she faced after the podcast episode went public. The confession revealed Nike's fear of being recognized and her misguided belief that fabricating her death would prompt Biola to remove the podcast episode.
"We are relieved that the truth has come to light, although deeply disappointed by this deceitful act," Biola expressed. She emphasized the podcast's commitment to providing a safe space for genuine storytelling and reiterated her team's dedication to ensuring authenticity and integrity in their episodes.
