In a recent interview with The Sun, Chief Chekwas Okorie, the Founding National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), expressed grave concerns about Nigeria’s current state. Okorie highlighted the escalating insecurity in the country, warning that it could lead to severe consequences if not addressed promptly. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, suggesting that the pervasive insecurity has the potential to destabilize the nation significantly.

Okorie also criticized the 1999 constitution of Nigeria, describing it as "obnoxious" and fundamentally flawed. He argued that the constitution is inherently lopsided, preventing Nigeria from achieving a truly democratic system that is fair to all its citizens. According to Okorie, the existing constitutional framework does not support equitable governance, thereby exacerbating the country's challenges and contributing to its current precarious state.

Addressing recent legal developments, Okorie pointed out the discrepancy in the handling of cases involving prominent figures such as the leader of Miyetti Allah and activist Omoyele Sowore, both of whom had terrorism charges against them withdrawn and were released. In contrast, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), remains in detention. Okorie highlighted this inconsistency as a significant issue that needs resolution, questioning the fairness and justice of Kanu’s continued detention.

Okorie likened Nnamdi Kanu's situation to the broader Igbo dilemma in Nigeria, viewing Kanu as a symbolic figure in the Igbo community's struggle for recognition and equality. He drew parallels to historical figures like Ojukwu, who previously embodied the Igbo struggle. According to Okorie, Kanu has become the living symbol of this ongoing struggle, representing the aspirations and frustrations of the Igbo people within the Nigerian state. He urged for a resolution to Kanu’s detention, reflecting the broader need for addressing the grievances of the Igbo community.

He said: Nnamdi Kanu matter is the same thing as the Igbo dilemma in Nigeria. Kanu is an Igbo son and they have seen him as the symbol of the Igbo man’s struggle right now and that is what he has earned. Like Ojukwu was the symbol of the struggle until now. Kanu is the living symbol of the Igbo man’s struggle in Nigeria.
