The United Kingdom chapter of the Labour Party has thrown its weight behind Olumide Akpata, the party’s candidate in the September 21 governorship election.
The chairman of the UK LP and a former governorship aspirant, Egbe Omorodion, stated this in a virtual meeting on Sunday.
He stated that Akpata is suitable for the job, while emphasising his record as the former president of the Nigeria Bar Association, while questioning the credentials of other candidates in the race.
He said, “As a former contestant, I am giving my full backing to Akpata and as the chairman of the LP in the United Kingdom, our members will also support our candidate in whatever we deem fit.

Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser on Media project to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday, said the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress is employing diversionary tactics ahead of the September 21 poll by making spurious allegations against his principal.
The Edo APC on Saturday accused Obaseki’s administration of monumental corruption, calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate some top government officials of the state.
The acting Chairman of the state’s APC, Jarret Tenebe, who made this claim at a press conference, said the EFCC had already invited some top government officials, urging the anti-graft agency to bring the investigation to a logical conclusion.

Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has faulted the actions of Nigerians who shared false information, claiming veteran actor Olu Jacobs was dead.
The rumours of Jacobs’ death had earlier spread online on Sunday without official confirmation.
Reacting to the news spreading on social media, Henshaw, who is also the Director of Communications for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, wrote on X.com, “How you people put up RIP posts about someone who is still alive, year in and year out, is very sickening.
“You do this to this great man and his family all the time! It is all shades of wrong! Stop, for goodness sake! Uncle Olu Jacobs is alive!”

The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has condemned the bomb attack in Borno State, warning the Federal Government not to turn the North East to the theater of terrorism.
Atiku issued this warning in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday.
The former vice-Presidentasked the present administration to live up to expectation, accusing the government of lacklustre posture in holding firmly to the frontline in the gains made by security operatives.
According to him, it is a sad development that the “ugly incidents of terrorism are resurfacing and, indeed, metastasising in the North-East.”
