Segun Showunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has raised alarms over what he perceives as the marginalization of northern leaders within the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to reports from The Nation, Showunmi voiced concerns about the potential political ramifications of sidelining these influential figures, who played pivotal roles in securing President Tinubu's victory in the 2023 elections, notably against contenders like Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Showunmi emphasized the delicate balance of power and trust between the Yoruba and the North, asserting that President Tinubu's actions risk disrupting this equilibrium. He argued that such marginalization could strain the mutual understanding that contributed to Tinubu's electoral success and erode the support base built across different regions of Nigeria.

In a direct appeal to President Tinubu, Showunmi urged for a fair and equitable power-sharing arrangement within the APC. He warned that failure to address these concerns could have far-reaching consequences not only for Tinubu's aspirations in the 2027 elections but also for the unity and stability of Nigerian politics as a whole.

Showunmi stated, "President Tinubu’s treatment of these leaders risks undermining the longstanding understanding between the Yoruba and the North, who rallied behind him, particularly against Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso in the 2023 election." He cautioned Tinubu that the perceived neglect of northern APC leaders who contributed to his electoral victory could potentially harm his political fortunes in future elections.
