NSCDC Cracks Down on Crime in Abuja, Arrests 243 Suspected Criminals

According to DAILY POST reports, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the arrest of 243 suspected criminals from January to June 2024 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to Dr. Olusola Odumosu, the FCT NSCDC Commandant, 123 of the 243 arrested suspects have cases that will be presented before a court of law for judicial proceedings.

"From the 243 arrests, 159 persons were arrested for their involvement in illegal mining activities, and the mines and steel department have so far recorded 39 cases," Odumosu revealed in an interview with newsmen.

In addition to the crackdown on illegal mining, the NSCDC also targeted suspects involved in the vandalism of public infrastructure within the FCT.

Odumosu stated that 34 suspects were arrested for this offense, with the majority of the arrests made in the Gwagwalada, Lugbe, Wuye, and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) regions.

The Agro-Rangers unit of the NSCDC also made two arrests related to a communal clash between farmers and herders in the Dafara Community, Kuje Area Council.

Odumosu proudly shared that the NSCDC personnel were able to successfully mediate between the conflicting parties.

Furthermore, the Command's Intelligence and Investigation Department apprehended 48 suspects with cases ranging from cyber fraud, domestic violence, and child abuse, among other civil offenses.

Odumosu revealed that 11 of these criminal cases had already been charged to court for prosecution.
