Nnamdi Kanu's Legal Counsel Clarifies Release Conditions Agreement

Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has refuted recent claims regarding Kanu's stance on conditions for his release from custody.

Following a routine meeting with Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja, Ejimakor clarified that Kanu will only adhere to terms negotiated for his release.

The clarification came in response to statements attributed to Abia South Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who reportedly indicated that Kanu was prepared to comply with "any conditions" set forth by the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

According to Daily Post, Senator Abaribe and approximately 15 other lawmakers from the Southeast had met with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, to discuss Kanu's release.

In his statement to DAILY POST, Ejimakor emphasized, "The news that he will abide by 'any conditions' for his release is incorrect. What was meant is that he will abide by the 'NEGOTIATED terms' of his release and on other matters related thereto, such as was also agreed in August 2017."

The clarification underscores ongoing legal negotiations surrounding Kanu's detention and efforts to secure his release.

Kanu has been in custody amidst heightened calls from various quarters for his freedom, particularly from Southeastern lawmakers and advocacy groups.
