According to TheCable, the National Youth Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Auwal Musa said "The EFCC does not have evidence to support the allegations against Kwankwaso. I challenge EFCC to come out with facts on the allegations, otherwise, we consider it as an attempt to witch-hunt and victimize him. Why did the EFCC wait this long to investigate him, nine years after leaving office, and also why investigate party affairs? Go to Kano and see what he did as a governor, check his records as a defense minister, and a senator."

It was gathered that the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was investigating the former Governor of Kano State and also the Presidential Candidate from the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) of the just concluded General Election, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over an alleged diversion of two point five billion naira pension fraud.
