Abia Police PRO says five elderly persons were arrested in connection with petition over kidnapping

The Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, Maureen Chinaka, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, disclosed that five persons who were arrested by men of the state police command were picked up in connection with a petition regarding a case of kidnapping.

The Police PRO disclosed this on her X handle while responding to the post by a man who alleged that fathers and grandfathers were arrested by operatives of the command's Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) over allegations police are yet to prove.

The man, whose X handle is @HarrisonBBi18, disclosed in his post that the five elderly men, whose names he gave as Ibejianya Chimezie, aged 67 years; Michael Ezerenmuo, aged 66 years: Reverend James Ugwubujo, aged 81 years; Innocent Adindu, aged 75 years and Enyinnaya Ugwubujo, aged 45 years, have been in detention for the past few days.

He alleged that the men of the SIB arrested the men from Umuata Umuosu Nsulu in Isialangwa North Local Government Area of the state, adding that the police are yet to prove the allegation against them.

Responding to the post however, Chinaka disclosed that the command received a report through a written petition to the Commissioner of Police regarding a case of alleged kidnapping, adding that through investigations, the operatives were able to arrest the five men in connection with the crime.

She also wrote: "All our actions are within the ambit of the law and nobody’s rights were trampled upon. The investigation will be concluded within lawful duration and they will be charged to court."
