Tinubu Offers Ex-INEC Chairman, Jega Appointment

President Bola Tinubu has offered former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega an appointment.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday when Tinubu inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Reforms at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Jega was named as co-Chairman of the Committee established to address obstacles to agricultural productivity and open up new opportunities which benefit farmers, herders, processors, and distributors in the livestock-farming value chain.

Sanwo-Olu Frees 56 Lagos Inmates

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the release of 56 inmates from various correctional facilities across the state.

In addition, the governor commuted the sentence of one inmate on death row to life imprisonment and granted pardon to another inmate.

The approvals, based on the recommendations of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, were signed by Sanwo-Olu on June 25, 2024.

This exercise aligns with the provisions of Section 212 (1) (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (amended).

Federal Lawmakers Push For Disciplinary Action Against FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, 6 Area Council Chairmen

The House of Representatives has called for sanctions against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and six Area Council Chairmen for alleged insubordination and disregard for the legislative body.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ikonne Ifeanyi, a member of the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, made the demand during the committee’s meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

He stated that it was a show of disrespect and lack of regard for the House that the Minister and his council chairmen refused to appear before the House after they were needed on invitation.

He said, “Why must we invite someone here and they are given us the date they will appear? What about the risk people took to be there? We should not be seen pleading for them to appear before us.

The Business Relationship Manager of Zenith Bank Plc, Mrs Ifeoma Ogbonnaya, on Tuesday, told the Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos how a former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, used his companies to get contracts from the apex bank.

Emefiele is standing trial on alleged abuse of office and allocation of $4.5bn, N2.8bn.

The embattled former CBN governor is facing 26 counts alongside his co-defendant, Henry Omoile, preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, before Justice Rahman Oshodi,

Ogbonnaya, who is the fifth prosecution witness, told the court that she never had any dealings with the ex-CBN governor but that she was receiving instructions from his wife, Mrs Margaret Emefiele, to transfer cash from CBN into their private company’s Zenith Bank account.
