Adedoyin Okupe popularly known as Dr Doyin Okupe has replied Chief Audu Ogbeh over the lingering issue of local government autonomy
The former S.A to former president Olusegun Obasanjo took to his official "X" account to express his view on the issue today.
According to Dr Doyin Okupe, the federal government has no power to scrap institutions in Nigeria.
He expressed that the power to scrap institutions in Nigeria is within the jurisdiction of the National Assembly.
Okupe went further to say that for Nigeria to operate as a true federal system, the local government needs to be scrapped. He advocated that local government affairs be made a complete state affairs.
“dear Chief Audu Ogbe.D federal govt has no power to scrap any institution of government recognized by d constitution. Secondly the FG ordinarily should have no business with the LGAs. Let the NASS " Scrap" them & make them completely affairs of d state govts,as it ought to be in true federalism”, he said.
