Police to prosecute dismissed officers for ‘hijacking petrol tanker’ in Enugu

According to The Cable Newspaper, on Monday - 8, July, The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced that suspects involved in hijacking a tanker transporting 40,000 liters of petrol along Ohodo-Opi road in Igbo-Etiti LGA, Enugu, are dismissed officers.

A video recently circulated on social media showing five suspects paraded for alleged illegal bunkering. In the video, some suspects identified themselves as former police officers. These individuals were found with police and military uniforms and firearms at the time of their arrest.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the force spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, identifying the suspects as Otache Egbe, ex-inspector; Abah Solomon, ex-inspector; and James Mamah, ex-sergeant. Adejobi said the suspects would soon face prosecution.

“These individuals were apprehended after a meticulous operation which led to the rescue of the abducted driver and motor boy,” said Adejobi. “Among those arrested are ex-Insp. Otache Egbe, ex-Insp. Abah Solomon, and ex-Sgt. James Mamah. The investigation led to the recovery of significant exhibits, including two AK-47 rifles, 105 rounds of ammunition, and various security uniforms. The police reassures that the operation exemplifies the dedication of the force to eradicating criminal elements irrespective of their previous affiliations.”

He added that the apprehended suspects confessed to their crimes and are being investigated by the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), with ongoing efforts to recover the stolen petrol.
