The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a warning of an impending nationwide strike within two weeks if its demands are not met by the Federal Government.

Speaking at a press conference held at Abia State University, Uturu Main Campus, ASUU's Zonal Coordinator for Calabar Zone, Comrade Happiness Uduk, highlighted several grievances including salary increments, arrears, inadequate university funding, and non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances.

Uduk expressed the union's dissatisfaction with the Integrated Personal and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and Treasury Single Account (TSA), particularly at Abia State University, Uturu.

According to Daily Post, she also condemned the reported victimization of ASUU members at Ebonyi State University (EBSU) and cited the adverse impact of high living costs on lecturers' monthly wages.

Dr. Chidi Mba, ASUU Chairman at Abia State University, added that lecturers are owed between 11 to 14 months' salaries and criticized salary cuts affecting some workers. He called upon the Abia State government to increase funding for the institution.

The union further rejected the Federal Government's proposed loan package for Nigerian students, cautioning that it could lead to student enslavement.

Uduk emphasized that if their demands are not addressed promptly, universities across the country will be forced to suspend academic activities.

ASUU's Calabar Zone encompasses seven universities including University of Calabar, University of Uyo, Alex Ekwueme University, Abia State University, Ebonyi State University, and Akwa Ibom State University.
