According to PUNCH, The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed strong confidence in the re-election prospects of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, despite ongoing economic hardships and a potential alliance between major opposition parties.

The current economic difficulties, attributed to significant reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, have sparked concerns among Nigerians. Many fear that these measures could jeopardize Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term.

However, Nze Chidi Duru, the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, remains optimistic. In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Duru emphasized that these reforms are essential to stabilizing the nation's economy.

“Our party has always recognized that the current challenging economic environment has not improved significantly. When Mr. President took office, he asked Nigerians not to pity him. It is a role he sought and worked hard for, offering himself to lead Nigeria,” Duru stated.

Duru acknowledged the public's high expectations, noting that citizens demand comfort and improvement in their living conditions. He stressed the importance of the initial period in office, as it shapes public perception and influences future electoral decisions.

Regarding the 2027 election, Duru asserted, “The discussion around 2027 is not out of place. In the life of a country, four years is like yesterday. Every political office holder knows that the first date in office is crucial, as citizens begin to track your performance immediately.”

Duru further expressed confidence in Tinubu's candidacy, highlighting the incumbency advantage. “Unless His Excellency President Bola Tinubu decides not to contest, the APC is bound to be represented by our candidate in 2027. The incumbency factor plays a significant role in our confidence.”
