Rain: Electricity distribution company gives safety tips, warns against pressing doorbell with wet hands

An electricity distribution company in Lagos State on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, gave some safety tips to residents of the state during the current rainy season, and one of the tips is that people should avoid pressing the doorbell of a house with wet hand for fear of electric shock.

The Ikeja Electric gave the safety tips on its X handle, saying people need to be careful as the rainfall intensifies in order to avoid suffering from electric shock or getting electrocuted.

According to the company that provides power supply to many areas in Lagos Mainland and part of Ogun State, people should try as much as possible to avoid pressing the doorbell with wet hands whenever it is raining.

In the flyer posted on its X handle, other safety tips by Ikeja Electric include the need for parents to keep children away from power sockets at all times, while also advising people to avoid touching any electrical appliances when they are are not wearing anything on their feet or when they have wet hands.

The company also warned people never to stand near trees, electricity poles and transformers during rainy and windy weather, while also warning that people should never go near downed power lines.

It also urged the people to always watch out for leaking in the house when it is raining, especially near wires, sockets and appliances, while advising them to always use surge protectors, especially during the season.
