KEMSA Chair Asks People To Make Sure Kenya Doesn't Become One Of Those Failed States

As citizens continue to exercise their democratic rights, Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) Chairman Irungu Nyakera has advised the people not to steer Kenya in the route of failed states.

Nyakera was certain that Kenyans must prevent their nation from getting to the point where the world's internet community begins to "pray for Kenya."

He issued a warning, saying that other nations continue to conduct their daily business while online discussions, particularly on social media sites like X (previously Twitter), go on.

"Let's make sure that, while we exercise our democratic rights, we never reach a point when people tweet, 'Pray for Kenya.' "Their lives go on without interruption, and their tweets stop there," he said on his X account.

Nyakera reminded the populace that every five years, the nation gets to select its leaders. He applauded the populace for raising concerns about corruption and waste, saying that it is through these acts that the nation will transform.

We choose our next leader at those elections, which take place every five years. I think it's great that we can now challenge waste, corruption, and demand accountability as normal; that's what this nation needs to improve.

However, I oppose any measures that would add our nation to the list of failed states. And nobody with a sound mind ought to," he said.

His remarks coincide with widespread youth opposition to the Finance Bill 2024 across the nation, which prevented President William Ruto from signing it.

The youth have also been advocating against budget allocations, particularly with reference to renovations to residences, the State House, and the Office of the Deputy President. Thursday saw more protests as young people demanded that President William Ruto step down.
