According to Punch, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that a former state governor and some former ministers are behind the planned mass protest against the anti-graft agency. According to the EFCC, intelligence information suggests that the protest is being sponsored by individuals who are tangentially affected by the commission's activities.

The EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that 259 civil society organizations have dissociated themselves from the planned protest, which is scheduled to hold on Friday. Oyewale warned that the protest is not in the overall interest of the nation and urged youths not to participate.

The EFCC's warning comes after the National Association of Nigerian Students, South-West Zone D, dissociated itself from supporting any form of protest against the EFCC. The student body emphasized its positive and transparent relationship with the anti-graft agency.

The planned protest has been condemned by various groups, including the Coalition for Transparency and Economic Reforms, which fingered some aggrieved politicians as the brains behind the protest. The coalition urged the Federal Government and security agencies to act swiftly to prevent the planned protest, which it described as another #EndSARS violence in disguise.
