According to the report from the Vanguard, On Tuesday, the Nigerian Senate took a significant step toward the creation of Adada State, as a bill proposing its establishment passed its first reading.

The bill, formally titled the "Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Bill, 2024 (SB. 482)," aims to amend Section 3(1) and the First Schedule, Part 1 of the Nigerian Constitution. This amendment seeks to establish Adada State, thereby increasing the number of states in the South-East to six, ensuring parity with other geopolitical zones in the country.

Sponsored by Senator Okey Ezea, who represents the Enugu North Senatorial District, the bill reflects a long-standing demand for the creation of Adada State. The call for Adada dates back to 1983, when Engineer Isaiah Ani, the senator representing Nsukka Senatorial Zone during the Second Republic, first presented a bill on the matter.

The movement gained further momentum following the 2014 Constitutional Conference, which recommended the creation of an additional state in the South-East. Despite various proposals over the years for new states in the region, none have garnered as much support and qualification as Adada.

This legislative effort marks a crucial phase in the ongoing quest for equitable representation among Nigeria's geopolitical zones.
