Alleged Invasion: Court adjourns case against military, CDS, others, awards N50,000 fine

The Federal High Court, sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Thursday, awarded a cost of N50,000 against the Nigerian Army and the Chief of Defence Staff in the ongoing fundamental rights case against the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Attorney General of the Federation as Respondents by a Niger Delta Activist and Lawyer, Festus Daumiebi Sunday.

Recall, that DAILY POST, recently reported that Igbomotoru 1 & 2 communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, were invaded by the military in search of the hoodlums responsible for the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Applicant, Festus Daumiebi Sunday, whose country home is Igbomotoru I community, approached the court for alleged invasion and destruction of properties worth hundreds of millions of Naira.

MUSWEN expresses support for Sultan

THE Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has expressed reverence and support for the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

This was contained in a statement bordering on the alleged move by the Sokoto State government against the traditional ruler and leader of Nigerian Muslims.

In the statement signed by the President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, MUSWEN, which is the umbrella body for all Muslims in the South West, said: “We, Yoruba Muslims, hold Sultan Abubakar in the highest esteem. He has been a bridge-builder, successfully unifying the 150 million Nigerian Muslims from different cultural backgrounds

Stop killing people, economy – Nigerian workers call for reversal of fresh electricity tariff hike

The Nigerian Labour Congress has asked the Electricity Distribution Companies in the country to reverse its recent tariff hike for Band A customers.

Joe Ajaero, NLC president disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

This comes as the Discos in Nigeria hiked the electricity tariff to N209.9 per Kilowatt-hour from N206.80 for Band A customers getting 20-24 power supply.

However, Ajaero described the hike as a crass display of insincerity and insensitivity by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.

North contributes highest to Nigeria’s 17m housing deficit — Speaker

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has said that North has the highest share of the 17 million housing deficit in the country.

To this end, he appealed to governments at all levels to promote affordable housing initiatives to cater to the homeless.

The Speaker stated this at the closing of the maiden Kaduna International Housing Exhibition on Thursday saying, the provision of housing for all citizens is a fundamental right.

Represented by the Chairman House Committee on Housing and Habitant, Hon. Abdulmumini Jibril, Abbas remarked, “Available data shows that Nigeria has a housing deficit of 17 million housing units in urban centres and Northern Nigeria has the largest share of this deficit.
