Manchester United are reportedly considering strengthening their goalkeeping department by signing a new shot-stopper to compete with Andre Onana for the number one spot, according to Sport Mole. Despite Onana's impressive performances since joining the club from Inter Milan, the Red Devils are keen to bring in additional talent to push him for the starting role.

Onana has been a reliable presence in goal, keeping 12 clean sheets in 46 appearances across all competitions, including eight shutouts in 34 Premier League matches. However, his recent mistake against Burnley, which led to a late penalty and two dropped points, has highlighted the need for competition in the goalkeeping position.

The club has already acquired Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce, but the Turkey international has only made one competitive appearance for Erik ten Hag's side. To address this, Manchester United are eyeing potential signings, with Lazio's Ivan Provedel emerging as a target.

Provedel, 28, has impressed in Serie A, and his performances have caught the attention of the Manchester United scouting team. A summer approach for the Italian goalkeeper is a possibility, as the Red Devils aim to bolster their squad ahead of the 2024-25 season.

The potential arrival of a new goalkeeper will provide healthy competition for Onana, pushing him to maintain his high standards and potentially even improve his game. With the goalkeeping position a crucial aspect of any successful team, Manchester United's pursuit of additional talent in this area is a shrewd move.
