Shehu Sani Reacts as Arms Center Set to Destroy ₦4 Billion Worth of Arms Seized by Customs

Former Nigerian senator Shehu Sani has raised concerns over the plan to destroy a large cache of arms and ammunition worth an estimated ₦4 billion that was recently seized by the Nigerian Customs Service.

In response to a report by Punch Newspaper, Sani took to Twitter, questioning the decision to destroy the weapons instead of handing them over to defense or security agencies. He tweeted, "Why not give it to Defence or security agencies?"

The arms and ammunition were reportedly intercepted by the Customs at various entry points across the country. According to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), the seized items included hundreds of rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The NCCSALW stated that the weapons would be destroyed after the completion of official procedures, a decision that has now drawn criticism from the former senator.

Sani, who previously served as a senator representing Kaduna Central, argued that the seized arms could be better utilized by the country's defense and security forces, who are currently grappling with various security challenges, including the ongoing fight against terrorism in the North-East region.
