On Thursday, the House of Representatives gave their unanimous approval to the 2023 Appropriation Act (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Act (Amendment) 2024.

According to a report by Punch, these amendments were introduced by President Bola Tinubu via a letter presented to the parliament.

The letter was read aloud by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.

The approved amendments seek to extend the deadline for the capital implementation phase of the 2023 Appropriation Act from June 30, 2024, to December 31, 2024.

Similarly, the amendments will extend the implementation period for the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Act to the same date.

All clauses in both bills received unanimous support from the legislative body, indicating a collective agreement on the necessity of these extensions.

Originally, the House had planned to reconvene on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

However, recognizing the urgency of these executive bills, they decided to shorten their recess to address the President's proposals.
