According to Vanguard, A bomb hidden in a donkey cart exploded in a town in northeastern Kenya on Monday, killing five people and severely injuring five others. According to interior ministry officials, the incident occurred in El Wak, a town on the border with Somalia.

The Interior Minister, Kithure Kindiki, stated that the bomb was designed to avoid detection by being hidden in a donkey cart. He added that the crime scene has been sealed off for evacuation and investigations, and security forces are pursuing the attackers.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the region is often targeted by the Somalia-based Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab. Al-Shabaab has carried out attacks in Kenya in retaliation for Nairobi's military support of Mogadishu's counterterror efforts.

Kenya is a major supporter of a broader multinational effort to stabilize the Horn of Africa. However, the military mission is planned to end in December, which would leave Somalia largely responsible for its own security.
