"We will back an alliance between the People's Democratic Party and Labour Party if it will result in a better Nigeria," Julius Abure declares.

However, the Labour Party chairman in an interview on Saturday 18th, May 2024, said that he could not openly confirm what was deliberated because he had not been briefed by Peter Obi.

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has also said its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is yet to reveal the outcome of his recent meetings with some political allies in Abuja.

This is coming days after a meeting between frontrunners for both parties in the 2023 presidential elections, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

The 2023 presidential flag bearer of the People's Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, declared his willingness to support Peter Obi in the 2027 elections if the new party selects him as its candidate.

In a recent interview with BBC Hausa Service, Atiku Abubakar said “I have said repeatedly and I even said it before the 2023 general elections that if the PDP decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South or South-East specifically, I won’t contest it. As long as it’s the decision of the party, I will abide by it. But I contested the 2023 presidential ticket because it was thrown open to all members of the party." The former vice-president also said, “We can merge to achieve a common goal. So, it's possible and nothing can stop it if we so wish to achieve that. And if the new party decides that it's the turn of the South-East and Peter Obi is chosen, I won't hesitate to support him."
