FC Basel have announced that their midfielder, Renato Veiga, is currently in discussions with another club, according to Evening Standard.
The 20-year-old has been heavily linked to Chelsea, who are reportedly nearing a £12 million agreement for the young talent.
Veiga, who appeared 26 times for Basel last season, is versatile, capable of playing as a center-back, left-back, or defensive midfielder.
Originating from Lisbon, Veiga developed his qualities at Sporting CP's academy before moving to Basel in 2023 following a loan stint with FC Augsburg in Germany.
An established player at the Portugal U21 level, Veiga is the son of Nelson Veiga, a former Cape Verde international. Currently, Basel are conducting their pre-season training in Austria.
They confirmed Veiga's departure from the camp for transfer discussions in a statement: “Renato Veiga has left the training camp - he is in talks with another club.”
Chelsea has had an active summer transfer window, already securing five new players.
They have recently finalized the acquisition of Barcelona's Marc Guiu, adding to their squad alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Omari Kellyman.
Additionally, Brazilian prodigy Estevao Willian is set to join from Palmeiras next season.
