On Wednesday, Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a 51-year-old man, Zakaria Opeme, who was accused of defiling a minor in Okun Owa, Ijebu-Ode Area, Ogun State.
Information was gathered during a telephone conversation that Opeme allegedly defiled the three-year-old girl in the aforementioned locality.
The case was reported at the Okun Owa Police Station but later transferred to the Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters for an investigation. The scene of the incident was visited by the operatives, and a statement by the suspect, Zakaria Opeme, was taken. Also, the victim has been taken to the general hospital in Ijebu-Ode for proper treatment.
The police spokesman, Omolola Oduotola, has confirmed that Opeme was arrested and detained following the allegation, and an investigation is ongoing to uncover the truth behind the defilement case. The case will be transferred to the state criminal investigation department in Ogun State for proper investigation.
