According to Punch, A long-standing land dispute in Nasarawa State's Keana Local Government Area has erupted into violence, claiming at least four lives and leaving several others injured. The conflict between the indigenous Alago and Tiv farmers has displaced hundreds of Tiv farmers and resulted in the destruction of property.
The crisis began when dead bodies were discovered on Alago farms, triggering retaliatory attacks from both sides. According to reports, two people from each tribe have been killed, and many more have been injured. Students at the Federal Girls College, Keana have also been affected, with some killed and others trapped in their hostels.
The Tiv Development Association has condemned the violence and called for dialogue to resolve the conflict. The association's president, Simeon Apusu, urged the state and federal governments to hasten the boundary demarcation process between Nasarawa and Benue states to prevent future land disputes.
Security operatives have been deployed to restore normalcy in the area. The state police command has confirmed the incident and assured that the situation is under control. The government has appealed for calm and urged the warring parties to refrain from further violence, emphasizing that killings and destructions do not provide solutions to societal challenges.
