Ekiti court frees four accused of murder, robber

An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division on Tuesday acquitted and discharged four persons allegedly charged with conspiracy, murder and armed robbery.

The defendants, Abdulahi Oladepo (30), Momolosho Olanrewaju (27), Jimoh Azeez (29) and Ibrahim Adebisi (29) were arraigned before Justice Jubril Aladejana on March 24, 2023, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder and armed robbery.

The charge read, “The defendants on 28th June, 22 at Ido Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government of Ekiti State, did conspire to commit murder by killing Ajayi Shola, and also robbed him.

Tragedy hits Niger Deputy Governor Garba's family, wife in sudden death

The Deputy Governor of Niger, Mr Yakubu Garba, has lost his wife, Hajiya Zainab Garba.

Gov. Umaru Bago, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Bologi Ibrahim, in Minna on Tuesday expressed sadness over the death of Garba.

He described her death as a great loss to the state.

Bill for creation of Etiti State passes first reading

A bill proposing the creation of Etiti State from Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi states has passed its first reading in the House of Representatives.

The Bill to create one more state from the South-East was presented for initial review during plenary on Tuesday.

Five members of the House of Representatives, Amobi Ogah, Miriam Onuoha, Kama Nkemkama, Chinwe Nnabuife, and Anayo Onwuegbu, presented the proposal to form a new state from the five states in the region.

The proposed state would consist of 11 local government areas selected from the mentioned states with the capital designated to be situated in Lokpanta.

Tinubu appoints Salamatu Ahmed as Executive Secretary of FGSHLB

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Hajiya Salamatu Ladi Ahmed as the Executive Secretary of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board, FGSHLB.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, disclosed this on Monday, July 1, 2024, while handing over the appointment letter to the new Executive Secretary in her office.

Salamatu, the Board’s Director of Operations, succeeds Alhaji Ibrahim Mairiga, who has proceeded on a terminal leave ahead of the expiration of his four-year tenure in September, 2024.
