Yahaya Bello: Lawyers Urge EFCC To Follow Due Process, Avoid Media Trial

A consortium of lawyers under the aegis of Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, on Friday, urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to follow due process in its bid to prosecute the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Bello is facing a 19-count charge bordering on his alleged complicity in money laundering, breach of trust and misappropriation of funds to the tune of about N80.2billion.

Trial Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had fixed May 10 to rule on an application the former governor filed to challenge a warrant of arrest the EFCC obtained against him.

Buhari Mourns Politician, Sidi Ali

Former President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday mourned the demise of journalist, author, and politician, Sidi Hamid Ali.

Ali died on Friday after a protracted illness.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Malam Garba Shehu, Buhari described the late journalist as a creative writer, who won his admiration.

He highlighted Sidi’s noteworthy achievement in chronicling his campaign against corruption and indiscipline as Military Head of State in an excellent book.

The former President added that the late author followed up the book with another publication on his accomplishments as an elected civilian president.

“I am pained by the demise of noted journalist, author, and politician, Sidi H. Ali, who won my heart and that of many through his critical writings and the two books he wrote about me.

Radda defends Northern governors’ meeting in US

Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda has addressed concerns regarding the participation of some northern governors in the two-day symposium organized by the United States Institute of Peace, USIP, outside Nigeria.

USIP had invited ten governors from Northwest and Northcentral regions to a two-day symposium on Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria, which took place between April 23 – April 25, 2024 in the United nited States.

Radda, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said, “There are so many questions and comments on our being here, some people are thinking that we should be in Nigeria and discuss security issues within the country where the issues are affecting the people.”

Witness reveals N4.6bn traced to Bafarawa’s son in ONSA arms deal trial

The Second Prosecution Witness, PW2, Hamza Abdullahi in the trial-within-trial of former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa and four others, on Wednesday, told Justice Y. Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, that a sum of N4.633 billion was traced to the account of Dalhatu Investment Limited where Bafarawa’s son, Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa and one other, simply identified as Nasir, were directors, with the former being the sole signatory to the company’s bank account.

Abdullahi stated that in 2015, he was the second-in-command of Special Task Force, Fraud Investigation on Arms, Defence Equipment Procurement in the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, on the activities of 78 companies that received money from ONSA without justification, adding that Dalhatu Investment Limited was among the companies.
