We're Practicing Monarchical Democracy; Have You Seen Any Ex-Pres Asked How They Run Office?-Ife Saloko

Ife Salako, the Labour Party spokesperson in Lagos State, in an interview on News Central TV, criticized Nigeria's political system, labeling it a "Monarchical democracy" that perpetuates unchecked power and lack of accountability.

Salako argued that high-ranking officials, including the president, governors, and senators, are viewed as rulers rather than elected representatives, granting them absolute authority without checks and balances. He questioned the absence of accountability for former presidents and officials, highlighting the ongoing scrutiny of Emefiele and suggesting that his actions may have been taken with the knowledge of former President Buhari.

"We are practicing a Monarchical democracy, it is the democracy that is running like that of a monarch... We are running a system that seems to give absolute power to anybody who has been able to attain that level," Salako said.

He emphasized the need for a system of checks and balances, stating, "Even the president himself should be put to check and balance. Have you seen any ex-president been asked questions about how they run the office when they were there?"
