A lawyer named Liborous Oshoma has spoken out about the ongoing spat between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State.

It has been widely reported for some time that Yahaya Bello is currently the subject of an EFCC arrest warrant, stemming from allegations of 80.2 billion Naria in illicit funds laundered while he was in office. In a statement released on Tuesday, the EFCC chairman claimed to have offered Yahaya Bello a more convenient questioning process in order to give him proper respect as the former governor of Kogi State.

However, Liborous Oshoma found fault with this assertion. This comment was deeply troubling to Liborous Oshoma, who questioned why Yahaya Bello would be offered a backdoor interview given the gravity of the charges against him, including money laundering. When Yahaya Bello informed the Chairman that he might attend the interview from his village, he was perplexed that the EFCC did nothing to apprehend him.

"You mentioned before that you would be delighted to see Yahaya Bello in the hamlet to interview him," he told Arise News Television. First of all, why would someone go to court so quickly when you know he is not involved in any of this? With that phone call, the EFCC brought Yahaya Bello into the picture, requesting her to come and settle certain matters.

So, you are requesting that this man, who you claimed had nearly a million dollars in state monies, contact you through a backdoor so that you may resolve the matter. Following this, you are pleading with him to come through your backdoor in order to address a situation—the same matter about which you said he had embezzled public funds.
