Mikel Arteta offers hilarious response to VAR drama in Arsenal's win over Bournemouth

According to 90min, Mikel Arteta openly admitted to deliberately steering clear of scrutinizing replays of the contentious incidents during Arsenal's 3-0 triumph over Bournemouth on Saturday, preferring not to offer his insights on them.

The Gunners seized the lead through a penalty, with Kai Havertz earning the spot-kick. However, Havertz's actions raised eyebrows, with allegations that he engineered the fall by leaving his leg exposed to draw the foul.

Yet, Bournemouth also found themselves on the receiving end of a questionable decision when Ryan Christie's high challenge on Bukayo Saka escaped a red card.

Later in the game, Bournemouth appeared to have clawed back a goal, only for VAR to intervene, overturning the decision due to a minor foul on Arsenal's goalkeeper, David Raya.

This came shortly after the contentious actions of Ben White against Guglielmo Vicario in the north London derby.

These incidents naturally became focal points post-match, but Arteta devised a shrewd strategy to sidestep getting embroiled in debates.

"I intentionally refrained from viewing any of the incidents because I anticipated your questions," Arteta revealed to the press.

"So, I deliberately abstained."

When asked if he wished to review the incidents, Arteta replied, "No, because then I'd have to speak honestly. Since I haven't seen them, I cannot offer any commentary."

Regarding Havertz's penalty-winning moment, Arteta expressed, "My initial reaction was joy upon seeing the decision. I was thrilled, and my joy compounded when Bukayo scored the goal."

"I cannot ascertain whether it was the correct decision," Arteta confessed.

"Kai isn't known for diving.

But without viewing the footage, I can't pass judgment."

While the victory maintains Arsenal's position atop the Premier League, their destiny in the title race lies beyond their control.

Reigning champions Manchester City, who triumphed over Wolverhampton Wanderers, trail by just one point and still possess a game in hand.
