On 4th May 2024 the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa during an interview with ARISE News while reacting to the current rift between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello revealed that once charges were in court, it was no longer the EFCC that would arrest, it was the court that would issue Summons against Yahaya Bello.

According to THISDAY, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa said "Once charges are in court, it is no longer the agency that will arrest, it is the court that will issue Summons against Yahaya Bello. And if he doesn’t appear, the EFCC will ask for a bench warrant to bring him to come and answer charges. But in the subsequent order, the court said because of your antecedents, you should file charges in court first. The court will then serve Yahaya Bello to come and appear. But don’t arrest him, don’t detain him. I think it is a very fair judgment. The position of the law is this: it is not for me or anybody or any agency to interpret a judgment of the court."

Michael Aondoakaa added that the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello was not above the law, but he was protected by the judiciary system. He recalled that during his time as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, he had a similar issue with the former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Kalu where he urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to go and vacate the order of arresting Kalu because there was court that ordered not to arrest him at that time.
