He recounts his own experience of being detained until 4:00 pm during the election period, indicating targeted suppression of opposition leaders. He also cites instances of irregularities such as the non-distribution of ballot boxes in their strongholds and the absence of election materials and OSEC staff in certain areas until noon. He concluded by condemning the process as a selection by the PDP and OSEC rather than a genuine election.
He says in his interview with Channels TV, ”If Governor Makinde had come out and told us there will be no election people would not have put in much interest. We in the African National Congress were hanging on what the OSEC Chairman said that the election would be transparent, it will be free, and fair, but so sad that what happened there was just a charade whereby PDP mobilized their thugs with the help of the police in Oyo state and they did it perfectly. During the election period, while I was picked as a leader of the opposition party in the state, I was picked and detained till 4:00pm. And places that happen to be our stronghold, they mobilize thugs, there are some places at ballot boxes were not distributed, and some areas where till 12:00pm there was no election material, and no staff of OSEC. We can't call this an Election, it is a selection by PDP and OSEC”.
