The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano state has received a significant boost with approximately 1000 members defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move has further solidified the NNPP's position in the state and poses a challenge for the APC.

The defection ceremony, which took place at the government house in Kano, saw the state deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo, officially welcome the defectors on behalf of Governor Abba Yusuf. The defectors, predominantly from Shanono and Bagwai local government areas, cited dissatisfaction with the APC and expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Yusuf.

Hashimu Dungurawa, the NNPP chairman in Kano state, extended a warm welcome to the new members, assuring them of active participation in the party's activities. He called for more opposition members to join the NNPP and pledged support for government initiatives.

Leader of the defectors, Haruna Abbas, emphasized their decision to join NNPP due to Governor Yusuf's effective leadership and commitment to Kano's development.

This mass defection signifies a significant shift in Kano's political landscape and highlights the growing influence of the NNPP in the state.
