According to Sahara Reporters, the South-East Governors Forum has resolved to engage with President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian government to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This decision emerged from a six-hour meeting held at the Enugu State Government House on Tuesday.

The governors present included Peter Mbah of Enugu, Alex Otti of Abia, Prof. Charles Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo.

The forum is also committed to implementing the recommendations from the South East Security and Economic Summit, which took place in Owerri on September 28, 2023. This summit addressed critical security and economic issues facing the region, and the forum emphasized the need for actionable plans.

In their communiqué, the governors expressed condolences to the government and people of Abia State, Ebonyi State, Imo State, the South East, and the family of the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former governor of Abia State and Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology.

"The Forum commiserated with the Government and people of Abia State, Ebonyi State, Imo State, the South East, Nigeria, and Chief Ogbonnaya Onu’s Family on the demise of His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu," the communiqué read.

The forum also welcomed a delegation comprising Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, who visited in solidarity.

Further deliberations focused on the reviewed report from the South East Security and Economic Summit. The forum agreed to implement the report's recommendations on security and economic integration, underscoring their commitment to actionable plans on these critical issues.
