According to Vanguard, The Osun State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Ogunbunmi Jelili, for allegedly raping a teenager, Blessing, and attacking her boyfriend with a Dane gun.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 8 pm in Poyika Adewumi village, via Olode in Ife-South local government area. The victim and her boyfriend were ambushed by the suspect while they were out buying soft drinks, and the boyfriend was forced to flee for his life, leaving the victim behind.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, the suspect was arrested on Friday after the victim's boyfriend reported the incident at the police station. The suspect had attacked the couple with a Dane gun, forcing the boyfriend to flee, and then dragged the victim into the bush and raped her. The victim was able to identify the suspect, leading to his prompt arrest.
The suspect is currently in police custody at the state command headquarters, and the Dane gun used in the attack has been recovered. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the suspect will be arraigned in court upon its completion.
The police have urged anyone with information about the incident or other similar cases to come forward and assist in the investigation. The victim and her family have been offered support and counseling, and the police are working to ensure that justice is served.
