Police arrest 18 over violent protest in Benue LG

The Benue Police Department has confirmed the arrest of 18 suspects in connection with the violent rampage that broke out on Wednesday in Sankla, LGA Ukum Local Government Area of ​​the state, due to attacks by armed robbers in the area.  The command also revealed that protesters attempted to occupy Ukum Police Station but were pushed back by the guards. 

 Ayati community in Borikyo Assembly Constituency of the local government was attacked by armed robbers on Tuesday night, resulting in several deaths and hundreds of injuries. An angry young men took to the streets of Sankera.  

 According to the information obtained, they attacked the house of the local government chairman with dead people, occupied the Sankra-Ayati-Say road and set fire to the highway in the conflict that eventually turned violent. . 

They destroyed various government and private properties in the city, including the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Local Government Secretariat, Legislative Building, Mr. Trump's personal property. Paul Biam, Chief of Staff to the Governor, and others.  

 The development forced the state government to impose a 24-hour curfew on local governments to prevent further violence.  In a statement issued on the incident by the Public Relations Officer, SP Superintendent of Police Catherine Anene on Thursday, the State Police Department disclosed that "information was received from Ukum Police Station that suspected robbers attacked Ukum Ayati" on Wednesday.
