A Former Chairman of the Eleme Local Government, Obarilomate Ollor speaking about the Rivers state Crisis has alleged that the Ijaw community, although a minority, aspires to attain leadership roles such as governorship.

He stated this ambition is stirring apprehension among the more populous ethnic groups, particularly the Ikwerres, who may consequently lose their confidence in reclaiming governance. He highlighted that If the youth begin to internalize the current sentiments, it could perpetuate divisive attitudes and hinder unity within the state.

He said in an interview with Channels TV, ''In my consultation with one of my colleagues who is also a chairman, he feels disturbed that this crisis might change the political landscape of the state. The Ijaws are the minorities in Rivers State but they want to become governors and leaders.

The more populous ethnic groups in Rivers state like the Ikwerres and others may not have that confidence in them again to come back to governance. If the younger generation begins to feel this way about what is going on, it means that there should be some level of reasoning to withdraw all these sentiments."
