According to a report by Al Jazeera, The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a grave warning, stating that it will require 15 years to clear the extensive rubble resulting from Israel's war on the Gaza Strip.

The cleanup effort, based on data from the UN Environment Programme, will necessitate over 100 trucks and cost in excess of $500 million. The debris, amounting to nearly 40 million tonnes, poses a significant threat to the people of Gaza due to the presence of unexploded bombs and hazardous substances.

UNRWA emphasized the significance of this cleanup, stressing that the debris not only presents a physical danger but also symbolizes the devastating impact of the conflict. The agency underscored that the task will be arduous and time-consuming, but essential to guarantee the safety and well-being of the people of Gaza.

The extent of the destruction is staggering, with over 137,000 structures damaged, including 34,000 completely demolished. The UN Development Programme estimates that rebuilding Gaza's homes could extend until 2040, with an overall reconstruction cost of up to $40 billion.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is further exacerbated by widespread damage to infrastructure and a severe shortage of basic necessities such as food, clean water, and medicine. The UN's assessment serves as a stark reminder of the immense challenge of rebuilding and restoring Gaza to its pre-war state.
