The protests, now in their third week, began after the Finance Bill 2024 was passed by the National Assembly in June.

However, facing immense pressure from Kenyans especially youths, President Ruto decided to withdraw the bill. This decision was made in light of increasing unrest, which has led to casualties and significant damage nationwide.

Despite the bill's withdrawal, the youth, particularly Generation Z, have pledged to continue their protests until they see concrete changes.

In a joint media interview with digital writers on Sunday, President Ruto encouraged the youth to find other ways to voice their concerns and to engage in dialogue.

President Ruto attributed the escalating tension in the country to misunderstandings and miscommunication, promising to address the issues raised.

He expressed regret and committed to improving the situation by fostering dialogue and discussions aimed at improving the country's prospects.

“You have given me some difficult choices, I will suggest to you on how we can go about them together. But I want to promise you that in the engagement that we are going to have I will be thoroughly clear and I want you to be equally clear on what you think,” he said.

Amidst the prominent protests, President Ruto reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to improving Kenya by the end of his five-year term.

"Sometimes I sleep late thinking about our nation’s young people, and that is why I am pushing for the programs that I believe will put jobs on the way for many young people," he stated.

President Ruto has invited the youth to engage in dialogue, promising to address their concerns and take swift action on issues within his control.
