MR IBU: A Novelty Football Match Heralds Burial

The family of late Nollywood actor, John Okafor popularly known as Mr Ibu is set to lay the veteran actor to rest. A novelty football match involving a top Nigerian Professional Football league team will be played to honor the memory of the late legendary actor.

According to the statement released by the family, the burial ceremony will begin on Tuesday, June 25 with a novelty match between Nollywood and Nigerian professional football league team, Enugu Rangers which will be played at the Rangers International Stadium in Enugu.

Subsequently, On Wednesday June 26, there will be a candlelight procession and live entertainment, tagged "Mr Ibu's Night". A Christian wake will be held at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West on June 27, and the funeral service will take place on June 28.

The 5-day burial ceremony will be wrapped up on Sunday, June 30 with a thanksgiving service in church for family members, friends, and sympathizers.

Mr Ibu passed away on March 2nd at the age of 62 after a long battle with his health. He had been unwell for months and underwent multiple surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs.

Before his demise, Mr Ibu had featured in over 200 Nollywood movies including Mr. Ibu in London and Coffin Producers. He was known for his unique facial expressions and body language which made him a beloved figure in the Nollywood industry.

The legendary actor who kissed the stage of life goodbye at the age of 62 is known to be a fond lover of the round leather game. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
