Darlington Orji, Caretaker Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, has dismissed the legitimacy of the defecting lawmakers, stating that they are "not known to law" and "not known to Rivers people".
In an interview with Arise News, Orji questioned the lawmakers' credibility, pointing out their inconsistent claims of party affiliation. He noted that they had sworn an affidavit declaring themselves members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), only to later deny it.
Orji argued that the lawmakers' defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC constitutes a vacation of their seats, as they were elected under the PDP platform. He emphasized that their attempts to represent themselves in the election without a clear party affiliation is a problem.
In his words;
"For us, they're not known to law, they're not known to Rivers people. Which party do they belong? They sworn an affidavit that they're members of APC. Today, they are saying they're not members of APC. How can we believe such people that'll be speaking from the two sides of the mouth. If they want to represent themselves in the election, which party? That's where the problem is. They were elected under the platform of the PDP, Today, they're in APC, so they've vacated their seats by the reason of their defection to APC
