In a recent development within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Board of Trustees (BoT) has pointed to internal strife and leadership disputes as the root causes of the party’s ongoing crisis. The Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the unresolved issues regarding the National Secretary’s office have been identified as the primary sources of contention.

According to Daily Independent, during his inaugural address, BoT Chairman Adulphus Wabara accused the current leadership of fostering discord within the party ranks. He reminisced about the sequence of events that resulted in the removal of the previous Chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, and criticized Damagum for exceeding the customary tenure period. According to party norms, a suitable candidate from the same region as the former national officer should have been appointed to complete Ayu’s term.

The ambiguity surrounding the National Secretary’s role has further exacerbated the party’s divisions, leading to confusion and hindering the party’s mission, Wabara expressed. He emphasized that although the party’s constitution offers solutions to these issues, ongoing legal challenges have complicated their implementation.
