Why we killed retired Army general, by suspects

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested four suspects for the murder of retired Brigadier General Uwem Udukwere in Abuja. The suspects, Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Nuhu, were apprehended following a robbery at the general's residence on June 22, 2024.

They confessed to killing him when he resisted with his pistol. Additionally, the police arrested Isa Mohammed Ibrahim and Nasiru Mohammed, members of a kidnapping syndicate involved in multiple kidnappings and ransom collections. Several other suspects connected to kidnapping activities were also arrested, and various items, including rustled cattle and an AK-47 rifle, were recovered. The police continue efforts to apprehend other suspects and dismantle the criminal groups.


Children Drown In Benue 

Two children drowned at a dam near Mkar hills in Gboko, Benue State. The first victim, Kumater Kachii, a 12-year-old boy, drowned on Saturday while fetching firewood with his brothers. Despite rescue attempts, his body was recovered and buried on Sunday. The second victim, 13-year-old Aondosoo Ansambe, drowned the next day while swimming with friends as his parents attended church. His body was also recovered and handed over to his family for burial. The police were not yet aware of the incidents at the time of reporting.


Edo now one of the safest States in Nigeria – Obaseki

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has praised the government's investment in strengthening the state's security architecture, transforming it into one of the safest in the South-South region and one of the most secure in the country. The government gained investor confidence, leading to increased economic activities and revenues. Obaseki highlighted the decentralization and democratization of the security system, allowing community participation in policing. The state now has over 15,000 vigilante operatives policing various communities across 18 local government areas. The government is also taking drastic measures to end criminal gang activities in partnership with other security agencies.


Man electrocuted while stealing electrical cables at MMIA – FAAN

A man attempting to steal electrical cables inside the powerhouse of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos was electrocuted, according to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku emphasized the need to prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas and noted previous attempts to steal airfield lighting equipment. FAAN has commissioned 30 Special Forces to enhance security at MMIA, following extensive investment in their training and equipment. This move is part of broader efforts to address security issues and prevent activities such as touting and extortion, which have been problematic at Nigerian airports.
