In a candid interview on Channels TV, the president of Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Alaye Theophilus described the current situation in Rivers State as a test of democracy, asserting that a governor's primary allegiance should be to the state and its people, rather than a political godfather.

He stated that the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has publicly declared his commitment to the people and government of Rivers State, which extends beyond the few individuals who supported his election campaign.

He emphasized that the governor's priority lies in serving the best interests of the people of Rivers State, and not in satisfying the demands of specific political backers.

He said, "What is happening in Rivers State today is about test of democracy because when a serving governor take an oath of office, his allegiance is to the state and to the people of the state, and not to one political Godfather. The governor of Rivers State has told Rivers people, the Nigeria system, and the diaspora at large, that the oath of office he took is for the people of rivers state and the government of Rivers State. Some few group of people believe that because they partake in ensuring his victory at the poll that he (Fubara) should be answerable to them. He keeps telling them that his first allegiance is to the people of River State."
